San Francisco to the Olympic Peninsula -- the Northwest Casino Resort Route                                June 12, 2007

Coming up to the Olympic Peninsula? Looking for a place to stopover?  Don't pass up the Seven Feathers and Little Creek Casino Resorts.

We decided to take three days to drive from San Francisco up to Sequim on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington.  The trip can be done in two days, and I know someone who regularly does it in one, but it IS a fair ways, and three days makes it a leisurely drive.

Depending on the route you take, the choice of stops between these locales varies,  The coastal route meanders through some glorious country with lighthouses and magnificent ocean views, as well as Bandon Dunes Resort on the way.  The inland route has fantastic mountain vistas, and opportunities to see some of the US's biggies -- Mt. Shasta, Mt. St Helen, Mt. Hood and Mt. Rainier.  And then there's the fastest route, straight up Interstate 5 right through to Olympia WA .

We took the freeway this trip, listening to a Cormac McCarthy novel, No Country for Old Men, and enjoying the scenery.  (For a review of the book, see Book reviews 2007).

Both nights along the way we stopped at (Indian) casino resorts.  The first night it was Seven Feathers Casino Resort, just off I-5 in Canyonville, Oregon (between Ashland and Roseburg.)  The walk-in room rate was $99 for a really nice room with Internet service and a continental breakfast.  There's an even better deal if you want to play golf at the attractive looking Myrtle Creek course down the road.  We were impressed with the resort -- great bar food reasonably priced, a huge exercise room, a large indoor swimming pool and two spas.  The Monday night we showed up also featured a comedy show in the lounge (2-drink minimum charge).  After the show, Dick of course checked out the slots for several hours.

The second night we almost stayed at the Red Lion Inn in Olympia, WA, but they wanted $169 (plus tax) for a room.  Seemed a rather pricey.  Instead, we drove another 10 miles and luckily came upon the Little Creek Casino Resort; it's on Hiway 101 between Olympia and Shelton.  This resort is also first-rate with value.  If you join their VIP club (for free), they'll reduce their room rate from $109 to $89 a night.  Can't pass up that deal for great rooms that are large and well appointed.  The resort also sports a nice exercise area, a big indoor pool, several choices on where and what to eat, and of course opportunities to play the night away.  The Indian owners have plans to build a golf course nearby.

Both these casinos are obviously doing well; they look great, inside and outside.  The Seven Feathers Casino Resort was just about to start an expansion to add another 100 rooms, while the Little Creek Casino Resort has recently finished its second tower of rooms.

We recommend both these places -- they're great, fun stopovers, priced right.  Now, we're wondering: where can we go to find more casino resorts?
