shadowlight.jpg (140511 bytes)I thought this first photo was worth including here as "arty", apart from its travelog value.  This wonderful gothic church is adjacent to the Grand Sablon square in downtown Brussels.  This side was recently cleaned.  Across the street is a gem of a city garden, filled with shrubs, flowers and dozens of statues depicting famous men of years gone by.  The third time we visited this area I thought to walk outside the park and came across this striking image.

The next three photos were all taken one afternoon while I was out looking for a second-hand bookstore.  On the way I tried to keep my eyes open.  The first photograph was easy to see.  Like most people, I'm drawn to bright things.   flowercolors.jpg (91068 bytes)I noticed these flowers outside a florist shop.  The lovely eye-catching colors would light up anyone's living room.

The other two images were less obvious to see.  Recently I realized that I'm totally enamoured of shadows and reflections.  Below there's the reflected "puls" sign on two "objects d'art" in a store window.  I would have liked to go inside the shop and move things around a bit, but the store was closed.

The rest of these photographs are more of my "what's that?" art.  Check out the photos below before reading the descriptions.

The first photo (to the right) is of the inside of a now-defunct store that's been closed up and covered over with chicken wire.   On the other side of the wires is a glass window that's been smeared with white paint (?)and through that window there's some apparent vandalism or residue in the background.  Interesting.  (My reflection holding the camera is visible in the lower middle right, but the quality of this web imagine makes it difficult to see.)

This next photo is inspired by Andy Warhol: six versions of the same reflected light on a wall at lightplaysm.jpg (61096 bytes)the Pompidou Center.  The reflection came from a stainless steel "art" armchair, but looked more like smoke on the wall.  Creating these variations on a theme was fun.

The last image this month is of a piece of someone else's artwork.  (I'm sorry to admit, I failed to note the artist' name.) Dick and I were wandering around town when we saw a fancy cafe with art books in its entryway.  Being curious, we PAPER_FEATHERS.jpg (183812 bytes) discovered that there was an large art exhibition space behind the cafe.  I asked the kid minding the shop if I could take some photos, and he said "sure".

The image on the left is based on a work from this exhibit.  The original artwork was composed of off-white feathers and white pieces of paper hanging from the ceiling; it had an ephemeral feel, especially when a little breeze blew by.  It was neat, but I think my more colorful Photoshop photo perhaps improves on the blander original.
